The Royal Cruiser 42 was the prototype of a model that was later continued as the Royal Cruiser 43 with the same layout. The boat, both hull and superstructure, was built entirely from mahogany.
The prototype was built for a German customer.
Shortly before the ship was to expire, it was bought by its current owner. He renovated the ship and changed its appearance considerably. The original deck saloon was replaced by an open cockpit. The diesel engine system was replaced by battery banks and electric motors.
